PixelPulse Weekly Recap: Beta Mayhem, Mafia’s Sicilian Swagger, and the Summer of Speedruns… Without Nintendo?!
Released Aug. 7th, 2025

Welcome back, gamers, to another *PixelPulse Weekly Recap*—where we sift through the deluge of patch notes, betas, leaks, and corporate apologies so you can spend more time gaming (or, let’s be honest, arguing about Soulslikes on Reddit). This week is a buffet: we’ve got beta queues longer than a Genshin Impact gacha session, Mafia’s mob roots going old-school, more Dead by Daylight drama than a Twitch streamer’s breakup, and—for the speedrunners in the back—a Nintendo-sized hole at Japan’s biggest charity marathon. Let’s get into it.

### Battlefield 6 Beta: All-In on the FOMO

If you weren’t in the Battlefield 6 Open Beta queue this week, did you even game, bro? EA’s servers buckled under the weight of over 300,000 concurrent Steam players (and that’s not counting the console crowd), leaving would-be soldiers staring at a queue screen longer than some actual matches. Oh, and PC players? Hope you studied up on Secure Boot, TPM, and BIOS fiddling, because DICE is *not* playing when it comes to anti-cheat. Next up: Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is going to make you do the same. The future is now, old man. Security is the new DRM.

But hey, at least DICE was upfront this time—bots are only in Training Grounds, so your lobby isn’t full of AI unless you’re still figuring out which end of the tank is the shooty bit. Progress, I guess?

### Mafia: The Old Country—Back to (Mobster) Basics

Forget the neon-drenched 1980s—Mafia’s latest entry drags us all the way back to 1900s Sicily. *Mafia: The Old Country* ditches open-world bloat for a lean, linear narrative that’s more about vendettas and vino than sidequest checklists. The critics are divided: IGN is digging the moody, story-first approach, while some say the gameplay is stuck in the past (and not in the good, nostalgic way). But if you love a good mob drama and want to see what the Mafia was like before Tommy guns and Cadillacs, this is the one to play. Just don’t expect to slap bystanders with purple dildos. That’s another franchise.

### Dead by Daylight: When Fans Beg Blizzard for Help

Behaviour Interactive dropped a Walking Dead update—and accidentally let in more bugs than a Starship Troopers reboot. Game-breaking exploits, a Clown killer on literal clown steroids, and perk bugs so bad that desperate survivors started tweeting *Overwatch* asking for emergency rescue. (No, really.) Eventually, Behaviour kill-switched the worst offenders and promised to be more nimble with Kill Switches. It’s been a rough couple of weeks for DBD, but at least players get to meme Clown McQueen for another patch cycle.

### Nintendo: No Speedruns For You!

RTA in Japan, the country’s biggest charity speedrunning marathon, announced Nintendo games are now *off the menu* after the Big N sent a “friendly” reminder about needing explicit event permission. After nine years of speedrunning Mario, Kirby, and Zelda for charity, now runners have to fill out paperwork for every single game, every single event. That’s right—no Mario 64 BLJs at RTA this summer. Nintendo: The Fun Police since 1889.

### Elsewhere in the Gaming Multiverse…

- **Guitar Hero Vets Resurrect RedOctane**: They’re teasing a new rhythm game—not Guitar Hero, Rock Band, or DJ Hero, but something “for the community.” Time to dust off that plastic axe and keep your expectations in check.
- **Eminem: That Guy from Fortnite**: Slim Shady responded like a champ after a fan called him “the guy from Fortnite.” The metaverse claims another soul.
- **Genshin Impact Ditches PS4**: HoYoverse is killing support for last-gen hardware in 2026. Time to upgrade, Traveler.
- **Virtua Fighter 6 & Tekken 8 at EVO**: New gameplay, new characters, and devs openly admitting that tag mechanics are for the diehards—casuals need not apply.
- **Pokémon Card Market Watch**: Paldean Fates Mew ex has gone full moonshot, while Pikachu and Charmander tanked harder than a Rocket grift. Meanwhile, more TCGPocket plagiarism drama as fans spot another “similar” card.
- **Game Pass & Humble Choice**: Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Persona 5 Royal, and more hit sub services. If you’re broke and have a backlog, rejoice.

### Final Pulse

From betas that break the internet to corporate overlords flexing their IP, this week was pure, unfiltered gaming chaos. And with Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show lurking on the horizon, the hype train is only picking up speed. Until next week, keep your BIOS updated, your queues short, and your memes spicy.
