Abducted by the human militaristic corporation known as the RDA, you, a Na’vi, were trained and molded to serve their purpose. Fifteen years later, you are free, but find yourself a stranger in your birthplace. Reconnect with your lost heritage, discover what it truly means to be Na'vi, and join other clans to protect Pandora from the RDA.
Played in a first-person perspective, players take control of a Na'vi orphan raised and trained as a soldier by the RDA, before being put into suspended animation and waking up fifteen years later in an abandoned facility. The player must embark on a journey across the Western Frontier, a never-before-seen region of Pandora, discovering their origins and organizing the local Na'vi tribes to fight back against the RDA as they attempt to exploit the natural resources of the Western Frontier. The game’s story is said to be partially tied to the films, while remaining standalone.
The game will also support 2-player cooperative multiplayer.
The game was announced in March 2017 when Massive announced that their next major title would be based on James Cameron's Avatar. The game was titled Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora with a trailer at E3 2021 and announced for a release in 2022. The game is set to tell a standalone story within the Avatar universe.
The game was delayed in July 2022 from its initial 2022 release window to the 2023–2024 fiscal year (April 2023 to March 2024). During the Ubisoft Forward June 2023 video presentation, a release date of December 7, 2023 was revealed.
